Green Hydrogen Production from Waste
Green Hydrogen Production
Green hydrogen is co-produced at Klean facilities as a designed output of waste conversion, not as a separate industrial project bolted alongside it.
Most hydrogen projects begin with a hydrogen plant and then search for cheap power and a buyer. Klean begins with a waste stream that must be processed anyway. End-of-life tires, plastics and municipal solid waste are converted through pyrolysis and gasification into domestic energy, sustainable commodities and green hydrogen. Because the feedstock arrives with a gate fee rather than a purchase price, and because the conversion plant is being built regardless, hydrogen co-production starts from a different cost base than a standalone build.
How co-production works
Thermal conversion of carbon-rich waste yields a hydrogen-bearing gas stream. That stream is cleaned, conditioned and separated, and the hydrogen is upgraded to the purity its end use requires — up to hydrogen 5.0 at 99.999% for fuel cell service. Residual energy from the process supports plant load, and the remaining output categories are recovered as commodities. Electrolysis capability from technology partners including Enapter and H2 Core Systems extends the production envelope where a site has suitable power and water.
Every facility, not selected ones
All Klean facilities will co-produce green hydrogen, each with on-site refuelling, and those sites are intended to form a West Coast USA refuelling network. That changes what a waste conversion plant is: it becomes a fuel node serving the trucks that feed it and the fleets around it.
Track record and projects
Klean works across the thermal recovery sector as a project developer and turn-key delivery contractor. A United Kingdom project covers pyrolysis of mixed wastes with hydrogen extraction, and a United States beef-plant project integrates fuel cells with biogas — two very different feedstocks, one recovery logic.
Yields per tonne, purity guarantees, capital structure and levelised production cost depend entirely on feedstock, scale and site conditions. Those numbers are shared with serious counterparties under direct discussion rather than published.
